OUR MINISTRIES

We can’t wait to meet you.

We have ministry opportunities available  for everyone regardless of your church background and where you are on your own spiritual journey. We’re here to help you with that important journey.

Adult Ministry

Small Groups – There are many within our church who recognize that Sunday morning alone is not enough to grow in their relationship to Jesus. Small Groups allow people to go deeper in their relationships with each other and God. Please contact the church office if you would like to be connected to participate in a small group or if you would like to be discipled as a small group leader.

Seniors' Care – We have a number of seniors within our church who appreciate a visit and there are opportunities to lead seniors’ worship services on a regular basis. If you would like to take part please contact the church office.

Family Ministry

Grow Kids - We offer ministry to children for ages 4 to grade 6 during our morning worship service and invite teens and adults to partner with us. If you would like to get involved, please contact our Family Pastor Patty Perry.

Nursery Care - There is nursery care for infant to age 3 on the main level, with a half door which opens onto the foyer. If you would feel more comfortable staying with your child, the nursery is next to the foyer and equipped with a speaker to hear the morning worship service.

Youth Ministry

First FMC Youth Group (grades 7-12) meets most Thursdays at the church. The youth group gathers for fun activities, food and bible study. It is a relaxed time to enjoy hanging out with friends who also want to explore the big questions around life, relationships, Jesus, the Bible … and everything! Check out the Facebook page ‘Free Methodist Youth Group’ for up-to-date event info.

Our volunteer team includes college students who are exploring a call to ministry, and mature members of our church who’ve been walking with Jesus for over half a century. If you have a heart for hospitality, for listening, or for young people you will fit right in! Contact the church office if you want to be part of First FMC youth ministry.

Student Ministry

Developing young leaders has been in the DNA of this church since the beginning. Dozens of young men and women found their calling at First FMC and went on to serve as pastors, ministry leaders, global missionaries and even national leaders in the Free Methodist movement. If you’re taking the first steps towards a call to ministry, talk to one of our pastoral staff about the following opportunities:

Weekend modular courses such as ‘The Heart of Canadian Free Methodism’ and ‘Wesleyan Theology’. These classes are a requirement for individuals tracking towards ordination in our denomination, and they can also be used towards a Briercrest College or Seminary degree.

Opportunities to serve in any of our church ministries, from worship/tech teams, to Childrens’ ministry, to serving at Riverside Mission. We are committed to intentionally mentoring young people and new believers to use their gifts in service to their church family.

Service learning credits with Briercrest College – Your volunteer hours spent in a First FMC ministry can be used towards the Service Learning requirements of a Briercrest College degree. (view website)

Hospitality

The importance of being hospitable is more than just a platitude with us at First FMC because we see this practice as an extension of Jesus' life in us. Throughout the Bible, God reminds us many times of the importance of showing hospitality because that is when we reflect God’s grace to others. Though one of the best ways to show Christ’s love is to invite people to your home for a meal, we also have some more corporate ways we serve at First FMC. If you love to cook or pitch in around the kitchen, please contact the church office and we can connect you with our Hospitality coordinator.

Coffee Bar – Each Sunday morning we have coffee and tea and light snacks to help foster an inviting place for people to connect with each other.

Potluck lunches – At various times in the year we as a church like to gather together for a meal. This sometimes occurs before our annual congregational meeting, to celebrate holidays or simply to get a chance to reconnect after the summer.

Local Ministry

Riverside Mission – Riverside is the local Mission for Moose Jaw and serves the community by providing meals and shelter. Its vision is to offer care and compassion to our community’s less fortunate delivering a positive message of hope and love to people through our actions and words.

First FMC partners with the Mission by serving on the Board and through serving meals to the Mission’s clients. If you would like to take part in this ministry, please contact the church office.

Global Ministry

Sri Lanka Partnership – In November 2007 First FMC began its connection with the Free Methodist Church in Sri Lanka. The next year began a process of seeking wisdom from God as to where in the world First FMC would focus on ministering. Rev. Dan Sheffield came and guided a process of prayer and reflection and as a result a more formal partnership with Sri Lanka FMC began.

There have been several trips to Sri Lanka and continued connection with our Sri Lankan brothers and sisters in Christ. For us, missions is not about going with all the answers to serve Christ but rather to see what God is doing there already and ask those leaders where we can best come alongside of the work that is already in place. Why not prayerfully consider joining with us and Jesus in the work in Sri Lanka?

International Child Care Ministries – This is our Free Methodist Child Sponsorship Program, involved in 13 different developing countries around the world providing children with the necessary food, clothing, medicine and education to meet their basic needs.
